My vision in the abstract expression of the Rottweiler is a celebration of the breed's unique duality: the robust, powerful worker with a lineage dating back to the Roman legions, and the gentle, playful companion, revered within the family circle. It is this compelling dichotomy that I strive to encapsulate, through the language of color, form, and texture, in a way that resonates with the viewer on a visceral level.
In my artwork, I have chosen to work with cooler tones of greens, golds, and blues - colors that mirror the calm confidence of a well-bred and properly raised Rottweiler. These colors offer a contrast to the Rottweiler's glistening black coat, underlining the breed's distinction while adding a layer of depth and intrigue to the painting.
The use of spontaneous, abstract strokes of oil sticks is a strategic choice to represent the Rottweiler's imposing physical strength and the fluidity of its effortless trot. Simultaneously, the spontaneity of these strokes reflects the breed's playful, even silly, demeanor, evoking a sense of warmth and endearing familiarity that Rotties bring to their loved ones.
My goal in this abstract expression is to inspire a deeper appreciation for the Rottweiler beyond its physical attributes. I seek to hint at the richness of its character, its courage without undue aggression, its aloofness toward the outside world, and the affectionate nature that makes it a cherished companion.
