This abstract painting captures the ineffable bond shared between a dog and its owner, specifically a Corgi and its owner during a leisurely stroll in the park. The artwork focuses on a singular, poignant moment where the Corgi looks up towards its owner, conveying a sense of joy and adoration that transcends words. The use of bold, simplistic strokes is deliberate, mirroring the vibrancy and dynamic energy of their relationship. These strokes not only depict the physical motion of their walk but also embody the emotional exchange between them. The painting is an exploration of the deep, emotional connection that exists in the silent communication between a pet and its human companion, celebrating the unspoken yet deeply felt love and happiness that is shared in such simple, everyday moments.

In crafting an abstract portrayal of a pug, this piece delves into the essence of affection and vitality that these creatures exude. The artistic process involved the meticulous layering of color rolls, an approach that not only mirrors the pug's characteristic folds of skin but also serves as a metaphor for the complexity and depth of their personalities. The use of limited, simplistic strokes was a deliberate choice, stripping down to the bare essentials to capture the unadorned, raw spirit of the subject. This minimalistic technique allows the viewer to fill in the gaps, to find resonance with the universal themes of love and zest for life that pugs represent. Every brushstroke is imbued with the intention to manifest the pug's playful and affectionate demeanor, inviting the observer to engage in a silent dialogue with the artwork. The result is an expressionistic piece that transcends the visual representation, inviting a sensory experience and an emotional connection.

The vision of this piece was to capture the Labrador Retriever's vivacious spirit and creativity through an abstract palette that transcends realism, inviting the viewer into a world rich with copper and gold. These metallic shades, vibrant and warm, reflect the breed's innate loyalty and the sheer joy they bring into the lives of their human families. Vivid accents in the painting symbolize the Labrador's warrior-like protectiveness and unyielding passion, encapsulating the essence of these faithful companions in every brushstroke.
Against this tapestry of warmth, a modern pop of blue serves as the backdrop, providing a contemporary contrast that accentuates the subject's zest for life. This choice of color does more than set the stage—it echoes the serene confidence of the breed, highlighting the Labrador's harmonious blend of enthusiasm and tranquility. Through this work, I seek to convey the irreplaceable role of the Labrador Retriever as both guardian and bringer of happiness, an abstract reflection of the love and light they cast in our lives.

"Dandy Dal" is my homage to the Dalmatian – a timeless emblem of elegance, athleticism, and unwavering loyalty. Drawing inspiration from the Dalmatian's rich tapestry of history – as coach dogs to nobles and guardians to firefighters – I sought to craft an artwork that transcends the ordinary, offering a deep dive into the soul of this magnificent breed.
At first glance, the painting might seem an exercise in minimalism, but every stroke, every splash of color, is a deliberate choice. The sparsity of strokes doesn't dilute the narrative; instead, it amplifies it. Each minimalistic flourish echoes the dog's distinctive spots, both in form and spirit, capturing the essence of the breed's unique coat that has captivated hearts and eyes throughout centuries.
I wanted to express the underlying strength and grace of the Dalmatian encapsulated by its muscular build and effortless gait, reflected in the expression. The dog's role as an athletic companion, a partner to those with an adventurous spirit, resonates in the painting's dynamism and flow.
Yet, beyond athleticism and elegance, "Dandy Dal" speaks to the deep emotional landscape of the Dalmatian. Their loyalty, bright spirit, and loving nature shine through in the choice of hues and the directionality of the strokes. It's an invitation for viewers to not only appreciate the visual allure but to also feel the pulse of the Dalmatian's heart – loyal, loving, and ever-energetic.

I aim to encapsulate the profound, transformative connection shared between humans and their rescue dogs. This painting is not simply about the act of adoption but about the myriad of emotions and stories that converge when a forsaken soul finds its forever home.
The sheer magnitude of the canvas serves as a testament to the enormity of the joy and solace these animals bring into our lives. It is intentionally overwhelming, much like the surges of happiness and gratitude that flood in when we bond with a rescue dog. Its expansive nature ensures that it becomes more than just a visual experience; it beckons viewers into a sensory embrace, encouraging them to immerse themselves fully, to feel the warmth, the trust, and the jubilation that fills every rescued heart.
Each brushstroke, vibrant and bold, strives to mirror the unbounded elation a rescue dog feels upon finding a loving home. Just as their wagging tails and spirited barks communicate a world of joy, so does this painting aim to resonate with an undying spirit of happiness.
As an artist, I want viewers to be transported – even if momentarily – away from life's daily tribulations, finding solace in the joyous dance of colors and forms that represents the unfaltering love and loyalty of a rescue dog. When you stand before "A Good Day", any shadows of negativity are eclipsed by the luminosity of pure, unbridled joy. It is a tribute to every wagging tail, every hopeful gaze, and every heart that finds solace in the comforting embrace of a rescue dog's love.

I sought to capture the ethereal essence of the Vizsla dog, a symbol of enduring athleticism and a testament to the ancient hunting traditions of Hungary. This piece is not merely a representation of a dog, but a tribute to the unwavering bond between the canine and its human companion.
The dreamy, impressionistic style serves to evoke an emotional response, allowing the observer to feel the pulse of the vast, open fields, and the weight of centuries of tradition carried in the Vizsla's stride. With each brushstroke, I endeavored to mirror the Vizsla's sleek golden-rust coat, allowing the richness of its heritage to shine through. The elongated, silky ears frame a visage that harbors an intensity, indicative of an ever-present readiness for work, and a softness that speaks to its domestic affections.
The juxtaposition of blues and pastels in the background aims to illustrate the openness of the field, a canvas upon which the Vizsla showcases its myriad talents. Yet, amid this vastness, the gaze remains – soulful and expectant – a poignant reminder of the deep connection shared with its owner. This painting serves as an homage to the Vizsla's duality: its prowess in the field and its endearing presence at home.
In creating "Soulful Gaze", I invite the viewer to delve into the heart of a breed that is as versatile in function as it is in affection. It is a call to recognize and appreciate the beauty of mutual understanding and shared purpose that the Vizsla so effortlessly embodies.

"Workaholic Grace" is an intimate exploration of the vivacious spirit and unmatched energy of a Border Collie. Derived from the abstract expressionist tradition, I have endeavored to create a visually compelling depiction of a breed known for its tireless dynamism and dedicated work ethic. The bold strokes, delivered with the breadth of a paint roller, reflect the Border Collie's relentless pace, its strength, and its overwhelming zest for life.
Each stroke of color stands as a testament to the Border Collie's multifaceted personality; the bright colors mirror its unyielding spirit, while the more subdued shades hint at the calming influence the breed can exert after a long day's work. The limited palette serves to focus attention on the raw energy and vitality of these amazing animals, a tribute to their undiluted authenticity.
This particular subject, a rescue dog, tugs at the heartstrings even more. The emotional journey of rescue dogs has been incorporated into the very texture of the painting, creating an intense narrative within the broader abstract representation.
I wanted the painting to retain a bold and graphic quality to convey the athleticism inherent to this breed. The composition is deliberately dynamic, matching the intense agility of a Border Collie in action.
This expression is my homage to the enduring spirit of the Border Collie - their drive, their loyalty, and their remarkable adaptability. It's my tribute to every Border Collie's untold story, especially those who have been rescued and given a second chance to shine.

In my latest artistic endeavor, I embrace a novel abstract expressionist approach that celebrates the boldness of simplicity and the power of spontaneity. By limiting the number of roller strokes, I allow each gesture to reveal hidden narratives and evoke profound emotions, while fostering the creation of intriguing shapes. This method, though minimalistic in execution, unveils the intricate essence of the subject when viewed from a distance—capturing the true spirit and expression of the dog. This seemingly paradoxical blend of simplicity and complexity invites the viewer to delve deeper into the artwork and contemplate the rich stories that lie beneath the surface.

I sought to capture the essence of the magnificent Doberman Pinscher. The painting is not merely a visual representation but a testament to the unique characteristics that define this noble breed.
Each energetic stroke conveys the raw strength and agility that the Doberman embodies. The bold, broad strokes represent their fearlessness and vigilance, qualities that place them among the finest protection dogs globally. There is an intentional roughness, a chiseled look, mirroring the dog's compact and muscular build.
I chose to employ gold leaf in my painting to capture the shimmering quality of the Doberman's sleek coat. Its radiance reflects the light, generating an almost otherworldly glow that distinguishes these dogs. This illuminative quality alludes not only to the physicality of the breed but also their intelligent, sharp, and discerning minds.
The gestural lines, though loosely applied, bear a purpose. They portray the fluidity and grace of the Doberman's movement - an unmistakable athletic dance that truly sets them apart. In this technique, the viewer is invited to perceive both the motion and the life force of the Doberman, a dynamic energy that seems almost palpable.
With this work, I aim to move beyond the conventional dog portrait, reaching instead for a higher truth that transcends the physical. My painting is a homage to the Doberman Pinscher's spirit and nobility, a tribute to their standing as royalty in the canine kingdom.

In this multi-paneled expression, I aim to confront the societal misconceptions surrounding Pit Bulls and to shine a spotlight on their hidden charms that render them wonderfully adoptable.
The essence of my painting is to depict love, companionship, and the intrinsic softness of the breed, qualities often overlooked due to the shadows of misunderstanding and fear that surround them. Each panel, lovingly crafted and bursting with color, represents a different perspective of these powerful yet deeply compassionate creatures, embodying their multifaceted character.
My choice of gestural abstract colors and shapes is no accident. The playfulness of the shapes and the warmth of the colors I chose intentionally exudes an air of joy and contentment, qualities I believe reside at the heart of each Pit Bull. Their true natures, hidden beneath the surface of prejudice, are given a voice through these colors and forms, speaking a language of love, happiness, and boundless loyalty.
Contrasting hues within the four panels represent the duality of the Pit Bull's reputation, while at the same time shattering these negative perceptions. I aim to spotlight their unique personalities shaped not by their breed, but by the environments and upbringing they experience.
This art piece does not just present an image, it presents a dialogue, a conversation we need to have about these misunderstood companions. It is a reflection of how our perceptions and attitudes can shape the narrative around a breed that simply yearns for love and loyalty.

The essence of my work is built upon the spontaneity and unpredictability found in the act of creation. I find immense joy in capturing the fleeting moments that arise when color, texture, and shape converge, each new painting becoming a celebration of these serendipitous instances.
My unique approach to painting is one of excavation, as much as it is of creation. I find immense satisfaction in the repurposing of previous palettes—cherished remnants of my past works. These fragments, each carrying a history of colors and patterns, serve as my raw material, embodying the emotional richness and creative journey of my earlier paintings.
Each piece I create is, in essence, an abstract symphony. I arrange the palettes, much like a musician would compose notes, allowing the colors, textures, and patterns to inform the painting's overall composition. This process is highly improvisational, intuitive and guided by the shapes and emotions that naturally emerge from the interplay of these collected moments.
The act of cutting, moving, and combining these older textures of color and paint strokes brings forth an unexpected dynamism, a delightful dance of old and new. In this harmony, a whimsical representation of a dog takes form—an abstract embodiment of joy, energy, and the pure, unencumbered spirit of these beloved creatures.
In this pursuit of spontaneity, my work offers a celebration of the moment, a revelry in the unpredictable beauty of creation. I invite the viewer to join me in this journey, to feel the resonances of past paintings, and to discover joy in the vibrant and ever-changing expression of this abstract dog.

Not only is the Beagle an excellent hunting dog and loyal companion, he is also happy-go-lucky, funny, and thanks to its pleading expression, cute. According to the breed standard, Beagles’ ears, when drawn out, reach the end of their nose. My intention is to convey the ceaseless energy, wit, and vivacity of the Jack Russell breed, challenging the traditional confines of dog portraiture. I wanted to break through the two-dimensional limitations of canvas, venturing into the realm of sensation and emotion, a testament to the notion that artistry is not bound to literal representation.
Harnessing the dynamism of abstract expressionism and Rayonism, I sought to capture not only the visual, but also the essence of this spirited breed. With rich blues and browns forming a deep, evocative base layer, I intended to represent the intrinsic depth of the canine spirit, while the metallic wash overlays playfully flirt with light, embodying the radiance and zest for life that Jack Russells are known for.
Through the process of sgrafitto, the scratching away of layers to reveal the underpainting, I captured the spontaneous, playful personality of the breed. This is a metaphor for the process of discovery, of seeing beyond the surface, much like uncovering the hidden depths and character of a Jack Russell.
The name "Course Dog" speaks to the journey of creating this piece. Not only is it a reflection of the specific context of an online demonstration class, it also signifies the constant pursuit of exploration and growth, navigating through the course of artistic expression and interpretation.
Through "Course Dog," I invite viewers to journey with me, to perceive this familiar breed through an entirely new lens of color, form, and emotion. In this realm, we are not merely observers but active participants in the vibrant dance of creation.

This is an exploration of a two-dimensional space in which 234 individually painted abstract squares determine the expression of an element. Influenced by the Rayonisim movement of 1911 - 1914, the term was derived from the word ‘ray’ which referred to an abstract style of painting developed by the Russian artists Mikhail Larionov and Natalia Goncharova. Larionov declared that when light rays are reflected from the surface of an object they intersect each other, creating intangible spatial forms.

Sometimes you make enough mistakes to warrant a painting. My approach to abstract expression is a journey of continuous exploration and discovery, where every alteration and modification serves to deepen the narrative of the artwork. This painting exemplifies this process, born from a series of transformations that have each contributed to its final form.
Over the course of a month, this painting underwent numerous changes, shifting between breeds and expressions. Rather than settling on a predetermined outcome, I embraced the evolving nature of the canvas, allowing each new iteration to guide the direction of the artwork.
This approach encourages uninhibited creativity and spontaneity in my work. Instead of adhering strictly to an initial vision, the fluidity of the process allows for a deeper exploration of artistic possibilities. Each return to the canvas brings fresh insights, as the painting continually presents itself in a new light.
In the end, the painting becomes a reflection of this dynamic process, its layers telling the story of its own evolution. Each transformation contributes to the richness of the final piece, culminating in an abstract expression that unveils itself in a unique and unexpected way.
Ultimately, my vision for abstract expression is about embracing the journey of creation. It is about the evolution of an idea, the dynamic process of transformation, and the personal growth that comes with it. This approach brings a depth and dynamism to my work, inviting viewers to engage with not only the final image, but also the artistic journey that led to it. 20” x 24” acrylic on wood panel

In my abstract painting titled "Field of Play", my artistic vision hinges on capturing the universal spirit of canine playfulness and joy, transcending breed-specific nuances. This work is inspired by a memorable, spontaneous moment – a dog leaping to catch a bubble on a hot summer day. My aim is to immortalize that fleeting instant of pure, unadulterated delight in an abstraction of color and form that resonates with all dog lovers.
Using broad, vivid strokes and rollers of color, I endeavor to convey the dynamic energy of that remarkable moment. The painting does not aim to literally represent a dog or a bubble; instead, it seeks to encapsulate the sensation of the chase, the burst of energy, and the sense of anticipation just before the catch. It is this essence, this spontaneity, that I strive to capture on canvas.
This artistic vision represents a celebration of the spirit of play inherent in all dogs. It is a reminder of the exuberance and enthusiasm they bring into our lives, as well as a testament to the bond between a dog and its owner. By focusing on the act of play rather than the dog itself, I aim to create an art piece that elicits a visceral, emotive response, evoking the joy and laughter such moments inspire.
"Field of Play" is not just a painting; it is a tribute to the everyday moments of joy and love shared between humans and their canine companions. Through my abstract expression, I invite viewers to revisit these cherished moments, to feel the warmth of the sun, hear the bubbling laughter, and see the leaping joy of a dog at play. It is my vision that each stroke of color sparks a memory, a feeling, a connection to our four-legged friends and the happiness they bring. He’s 24” x 24” acrylic and paper on wood panel.

In my abstract expression of the Basenji dog, my vision is to distill the essence of the breed to its most fundamental core. I aim to step away from complex detail, focusing instead on translating the animal's unique characteristics into the language of color and form. This minimalistic, abstract approach evokes the quintessential traits of the Basenji - its natural hunting instinct, acute sense of smell, and its distinctive silhouette - without binding the viewer's perception to a literal interpretation.
I begin the painting process with broad, simplistic strokes, deliberately employing a roller to maintain the focus on the broader essence rather than intricate details. This approach lays the groundwork for my art, setting the stage for an exploration of minimalism and abstraction in capturing the essence of this remarkable breed.
With the Basenji's iconic leading nose in mind, I use gestural strokes to evoke its keen hunting instincts and acute olfactory sense. Dark, rich colors form the foundational layer, symbolizing the breed's inherent strength and determination.
The process of layering transparent colors over this base is a metaphor for the complex personality traits and behaviors that come to life when one looks beyond the Basenji's physical appearance. These layers build an abstract definition around the dog, subtly alluding to its form without limiting the interpretation to a literal depiction.

My vision in the abstract expression of the Rottweiler is a celebration of the breed's unique duality: the robust, powerful worker with a lineage dating back to the Roman legions, and the gentle, playful companion, revered within the family circle. It is this compelling dichotomy that I strive to encapsulate, through the language of color, form, and texture, in a way that resonates with the viewer on a visceral level.
In my artwork, I have chosen to work with cooler tones of greens, golds, and blues - colors that mirror the calm confidence of a well-bred and properly raised Rottweiler. These colors offer a contrast to the Rottweiler's glistening black coat, underlining the breed's distinction while adding a layer of depth and intrigue to the painting.
The use of spontaneous, abstract strokes of oil sticks is a strategic choice to represent the Rottweiler's imposing physical strength and the fluidity of its effortless trot. Simultaneously, the spontaneity of these strokes reflects the breed's playful, even silly, demeanor, evoking a sense of warmth and endearing familiarity that Rotties bring to their loved ones.
My goal in this abstract expression is to inspire a deeper appreciation for the Rottweiler beyond its physical attributes. I seek to hint at the richness of its character, its courage without undue aggression, its aloofness toward the outside world, and the affectionate nature that makes it a cherished companion. Through my abstract expression of the Afghan Hound, I aspire to bring to life not only the distinct physical features that make this breed unique, but also the vibrant spirit that lies beneath its elegant exterior. This painting is not just about representation; it's a celebration of the Afghan Hound's multifaceted personality and rich history, a merging of the tangible and intangible into one cohesive artistic expression.
I begin my journey of expression by building layers of color, reminiscent of the Afghan Hound's thick, flowing coat, the breed's crowning glory. By using dark ambers as the under layer, and then enriching it with layers of golds, blues, and eventually, a final layer of white, I strive to encapsulate the breed's majestic allure, as well as the practical utility of its coat, a testament to the dog's origins in the harsh climates of mountainous regions.
The usage of graphic shapes to design the body of the hair further abstracts the image, rendering an expression of the dog's sleek and agile form without constricting it to realistic representation. This abstract expressionism technique captures the breed's strength, agility, and resilience, reflecting its history as a sturdy, powerful hound, built to withstand punishing terrains.
Yet, the painting transcends the physical; it is also an exploration of the Afghan Hound's unique character. With a regal demeanor contrasted by an endearing streak of silliness and profound loyalty, the Afghan Hound stands as an intriguing blend of sophistication and warmth. Through my abstract approach, I aim to hint at these dichotomies, inviting the viewer to delve deeper into the rich tapestry of this breed's character. 24” x 24” acrylic on wall board.

In my abstract portrayal of the Welsh Springer Spaniel, or 'Welshie,' my vision is to honor the breed's rich heritage, unique physical attributes, and exuberant personality while challenging the traditional expectations of canine art. This work aims to encapsulate a single, dynamic moment of action - a Welshie's attempt to catch a bird - expressed through a bold blend of heavy texture, color, and pop art aesthetics.
By applying heavy textures of paint and layers of color, I seek to inject a sense of motion into the canvas, capturing the Welshie's energy and drive as a bird dog. The layers build up to form a graphic shape around the dog, abstractly encapsulating the intensity of the chase and the Welshie's innate versatility in the field.
The use of pop art aesthetics serves two key purposes in this work. Firstly, it draws attention to the exhilarating moment of the chase, underscoring the joy and spirit of the breed in action. Secondly, the pop art style is a deliberate divergence from the sophistication often associated with Welshies, adding an element of surprise and playfulness to the painting. This style choice encapsulates the breed's happy disposition and the breed's dual nature - the 'handy size' sporting dog and the dashing good-looking companion.
Through this abstract expression, I strive to bring forward the Welshie's distinctive attributes - the uniquely tapered head and the eye-catching coat of bold red and white patterns - in a way that is both contemporary and impactful. 24” x 24” acrylic on wall board.

A lot of my paintings of dogs have an active gesture. But some dogs have an understated gesture that shouts louder than most active gestures. Pit bulls can have a powerful and sweet gesture at the same time. They are solid dogs with such powerful structures. To express this power, I purposefully used larger geometrical shapes of layered color and then overlaid with gestural scribbles as if the pit bull's hairs were raised. 23.75” x 23.75” Acrylic and wall board.
